TERMS: The voice teacher you may be paired with might utilize both in-person and online modalities (hybrid teaching model). By submitting your application, you are agreeing to a hybrid format and if you are not willing to have those lessons online, those lessons will be forfeited. Although not a requirement, we would be grateful if you followed us on social media and liked/shared our posts so that others can learn about the Rehart Gesner Fund.

REHART GESNER SCHOLARSHIPS

Thank you for your interest in a applying for a Rehart Gesner Scholarship. Founded in 2023, the Rehart Gesner Fund is a scholarship resource to help defray costs of voice lessons for CCSD music educators. Born from a place of inspiration, the fund is named after Co-Founders Dr. Michelle Latour and Katy Morris’ grandmothers, Ruth Rehart and Lorraine Gesner, both of whom had a profound impact on the co-founders’ musical upbringing. While there are many options for young singers to apply for financial assistance in Clark Country, there are few resources available for music teachers. The Rehart Gesner Fund fills that gap, giving deserved recognition and support to teachers who would like to cultivate their own talent, explore their own personal development, and nurture the artist within. 

Before you begin the application process, please note the following:

  • You will need to submit a brief bio or resume in addition to a short essay.

  • As you answer questions, there may be pop-up boxes asking you to "please tell us more.”

  • This application will probably take you 45-minutes to one-hour to complete.

  • Your individual answers will not be saved/submitted until you click on the SUBMIT button at the END of the application (if you refresh the page before you have completed the entire application, you will lose your previous answers).

  • The final SUBMIT button will not appear until your entire application is completed and you have agreed to the TERMS.

  • We highly suggest that you read through this entire page before beginning your application.

The ideal candidate will fall under one of the two following categories:

You are in need of addressing your own vocal health & sustainability.

  • You are a teacher who has had a history of vocal fatigue.

  • You tend to not use your voice at all over the weekend in order to give your voice a rest.

  • You are looking to better hone your own technique in order to make sure that your music programs are creating healthy, student-led singing objectives.

  • You have not had the time or resources to continue your own vocal education.

  • You are in need of a vocal pedagogy refresh.

You are in need of developing your own vocal identity for your own performing.

  • You spend all your resources, time & energy on your students, only to feel that you are out of resources/energy/passion for yourself.

  • You have put your own vocal training on hold in order to serve your students immediate needs.

  • You are wanting to re-step into your own singing in a way that you haven’t been able to sustain outside of school.

  • You are in need of an outlet for your own artistry.

  • You stopped taking gigs because your voice can no longer do anything else.

QUALIFICATIONS: Interested candidates must be a CCSD School Teacher...

  • with 5+ years of experience teaching choir as a single subject at middle school or high school OR

  • with 5+ years of experience teaching theatre as a single subject at middle or high school OR

  • with 5+ years of experience teaching general music in an elementary school/multi-subject environment AND

  • in need of addressing your own vocal health & sustainability OR

  • in need of developing your own vocal identity for your own performing

  • who is employed full or part time

  • who may or may not have previous vocal training

  • who is currently NOT taking voice lessons with a Rehart Gesner voice teacher

Other important information to review PRIOR to applying for a scholarship:

  1. Applicants must meet the qualifications as listed above.

  2. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

  3. Scholarship awards will be determined by a committee of five members.

  4. Scholarships are awarded dependent upon availability of funding.

  5. Scholarships are awarded based upon the availability of the Rehart Gesner voice teachers: Dr. Michelle Latour, Kimberly Kanitz & Dr. Kimberly James.

  6. Awarded scholarships are for 12 one-hour voice lessons, to be conducted over a 16-week period. Lessons not completed within a 16-week period may be forfeited. Additionally, some lessons may be conducted via a combination of in-person and online lessons.

  7. These lessons will be used to accomplish individual vocal goals as determined together by the scholarship awardee and the Rehart Gesner voice teacher during the first lesson, an Initial Fit Session.

  8. Scholarship recipients must also attend the 2025 Rehart Gesner Benefit Recital (date TBD).

  9. Scholarship recipients will be notified via email within two weeks of their application submittal date.
